Gage Feeney earns third athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainoesprts@gmail.com

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2014 spring season- Week 1-April 15th-April 27th

Male

Gage Feeney- Washington Academy- baseball- Pitched a complete game five hitter, struck out eight and did not issue a walk in 4-1 victory over Bucksport. Pitched a complete game four hitter in 5-0 victory over George Stevens. Feeney struck out eight and issued zero walks. He had two hits at the plate in the victory over George Stevens.

This is the third time that Feeney has earned athlete of the week honors.

Runner up

Spencer Thompson- Narraguagus- baseball- Pitched a six hitter with 12 strikeouts (two in each of the first six innings) in 9-3 victory over Calais. Thompson walked only two in his complete game effort. The senior also contributed three runs to the Knights offense. Had a triple, two runs scored, and two RBI in 7-2 win over Sumner.

Other nominations

Nick Decker- Foxcroft- baseball- allowed two earned runs on one walk and four hits while striking out eight in 11-3 win over Dexter.

Talen Strout- Foxcroft- baseball- had three hits and four RBI in 11-3 win over Dexter.

Abe Simpson- Foxcroft- baseball- had three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI in 11-3 win over Dexter.

Jon Phelps- MDI- baseball- Had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBI in 7-2 victory over Foxcroft. Had one hit, two walks and earned the victory on the mound by allowing only two earned runs and seven hits in 5-3 victory over Foxcroft. Phelps struck out eight.

Tom Paola- MDI- baseball- Had three hits, four RBI, and one walk in 5-3 win over Foxcroft. Had one hit, one run scored, and one RBI in 7-2 victory over Foxcroft.

Steve Hanscom- MDI- baseball- Pitched a complete game one hitter in 7-2 win over Foxcroft. He issued only one walk and struck out five. Had two hits in 5-3 win over Foxcroft.

Cody Collins- Bangor Christian- baseball- Had a double, home run, and four RBI in 13-0 win over Schenck.
