Gage Feeney earns fourth athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com.

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2014 spring season- Week 8- June 9th-June 14th

Male

Gage Feeney- Washington Academy- baseball- The junior pitched a one hitter, allowing 0 earned runs, walked three, and struck out 12, and also hit a double in 4-1 quarterfinal victory over Orono.

Feeney joins Garet Beal (Jonesport-Beals), Kayla Dube (PVHS), Isaiah Bess (Penquis), Max McHugh (Central), and Parise Rossignol (Van Buren) as the only student/athletes that have been named athlete of the week at least four times.

Feeney and the Raiders will take on George Stevens in the class C regional final this Tuesday.

Runner up

Steven Hanscom- MDI- baseball - Pitched a complete game six hitter with eight strikeouts and had two RBI, including the walk off hit in 2-1 victory in nine innings in a class B prelim game. Hanscom was also named PVC pitcher of the year.

Other nominations

Chris Johnson- Penquis- baseball- Had three hits in 8-4 prelim victory over Narraguagus.

Trevor Lyford- Penquis- baseball- Had two hits and earned the save in 8-4 prelim victory over Narraguagus. Had a double and a run scored in 10-2 quarterfinal loss to Bucksport.

Tyler Cochran- Woodland- baseball- Pitched a four hitter with 10 strikeouts, plus he had two doubles and two RBI in 4-1 prelim victory over Stearns.

Connor Graffam- Camden Hills- baseball- Pitched a three hitter with 13 strikeouts in 7-1 prelim victory over Belfast.

Asher Bowden- Bucksport- baseball- Pitched a three hitter with nine strikeouts in 10-2 quarterfinal victory over Penquis.
