Gadget Lab USA positioning itself to become the spot for competitive gaming

How many times has it been heard here in the Monterey County that there's nothing for young people to do? Though Monterey County itself has a rich history with a thriving agricultural center, it's not the most exciting place in the world for gamers.

Inside the Battle Sports USA shop on 938 S. Main St. in Salinas, there's a room with two tables. Eight Xbox 360s with dedicated monitors, headsets, and controllers wait, ready for competitors who are up for the challenge. Owned by Ryan and Gloria Dunn, Battle Sports USA is more known for its hobby products -- things like airsport rifles, paintbull guns, and RC parts, but they're hoping to change that.

Though the rest of the shop has done well for the Dunns in the past, it's the Gadget Lab that's getting special attention. Sporadically, the shop has held tournaments for eager gamers willing to test their skills for cash and other prizes. With competitive games like Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 coming very soon, Gloria hopes more people will come in for tournament gaming and to preorder video games for their Xbox 360s, Playstation 3s, and Wiis.

Before Black Ops 2 drops, Gadget Labs plans on throwing a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 4v4 cash prize tournament on Nov. 7, 2012. The entry fee is $10, and Gadget Labs is taking RSVPs through its Facebook Events page.

If gamers in Monterey County are able and willing, they can expect to play against other locals gunning to come out on top. It could be the start of a new and exciting thing for gamers.
