Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators (GACE) posted an update on its website that “The January 9, 2010 GACE test administration is currently planned to occur as scheduled at all sites designated for this administration.”
According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, however, many Atlanta roads are still icy and dangerous.
An email sent to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution complained that “With every news source telling us to stay home if at all possible, teachers and prospective teachers were required to drive to a variety of places (mine was near Cummings) to take certification tests. […] I decided to eat the $100+ registration fee and try again later.”

I know it's unbelievable! I'm eating the $100 test fee because my driveway is still ice covered and I cannot safely get down without crashing! The GACE representatives response to me was (and I would like to add, without a shred of understanding in her voice), "you can appeal it, but it's not guaranteed that we will approve your appeal, we just can't move your test date to the next session, you would have had to submit an request for change by the deadline in December" Is she not smart enough to realize that I didn't know this weather was going to take place this weekend? I've taken pictures of my driveway and have copied articles posted on the internet from news sources to support my argument. Now I have to write a letter and submit all of this information via fax (what about email?) We'll see what their response is, but I plan on fighting GACE's irresponsible decision to administer this test during a time when responsible citizens are encouraged to stay home if possible.
