Actress Gabrielle Union’s new venture back into television topped the cable ratings chart for BET on Tuesday night. According to a report in Variety on Wednesday Jan. 8 the premiere of Union’s new series “Being Mary Jane” ranked as the No. 1 show with an estimated 3.32 million viewers watching.
In the series which premiered as a movie last year on the cable network, the “Think Like a Man” actress stars as a news anchor who tries to strike a balance between her professional, home and personal lives with varying degrees of success. "Being Mary Jane" also stars Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Lisa Vidal and Richard Brooks.
The show is the brainchild of Mara Brock Akil one half of the hit-making husband and wife team behind such shows as “Girlfriends”, “The Game” and the film “Sparkle”. This isn’t the first television series for Union who has starred in several shows including “City of Angels”, “Night Stalker” and “FlashForward”.
“Being Mary Jane” airs on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET on BET.
