Sunday, September 22 is the closing day for the three-day arts and cultural happening in downtown Miami which includes activities for everyone such as panel discussions, international exhibitions, bike and walking tours all part of the 125-plus events going on since Friday.
Dubbed ‘DWNTWN Miami Art Days 2013’, the sweltering sun did not keep thousands away over the weekend and, according to one of the hundreds of volunteer workers, “this was certainly a smashing success and a tremendous improvement over last year’s event.”
The artwork of Miamian Gabriel Gimenez was one of many works of art which are scattered across the downtown cultural landscape of Metropolitan Miami this weekend.
Better known as ‘GG’, young Gabriel was painting a mural honoring a few of his favorites in the art world such as Andy Warhol, Freda Kahlo, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Salvador Dali. The mural, which was a work in progress on Saturday, can be seen just outside the Artisan lounge Gallery & Studio at 500 NE first avenue downtown Miami.
On this final Miami Art Days 2013, there are many events scattered throughout downtown Miami which can still be visited and enjoyed including (1) A Bob Marley mural by artist Trek 6 at the HistoryMiami museum at 101 West Flagler Street, (2) A new exhibit called Dino Island which is at the Miami Children’s Museum at 980 MacArthur Causeway, and (3) The Speed of Art | Leonardo Hildago Solo Exhibition and Art Car at the Bas Fisher Invitational 100 NE 11st, just to name a few.
Miami Art Days 2013 is collaboration between Miami’s Downtown arts and cultural partners and the Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA)
