GableStage will present Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire from July 20 through August 18 at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. The play is directed by Joe Adler and stars Stephen G. Anthony, Barbara Bradshaw, Clay Cartland, Elizabeth Dimon, Renata Eastlick and Laura Turnbull.
A single mother with a developmentally disabled adult daughter is let go from her job as a cashier from a dollar store. She seeks out her old high school boyfriend and biological father of her daughter. He grew up in the same blue-collar neighborhood but made it out and became a doctor.
The play is about insurmountable class divide between those who make it out of this blue-collar Irish neighborhood and those who find themselves left behind. Is it strength of character or just a few lucky breaks that determines a person's fate?
Good People was awarded Best Play 2011 by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award and was a Tony Award nominee.
David Lindsay-Abaire received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2007 for his play Rabbit Hole, which also earned several Tony Award nominations.
