As the summer dies down seasonal traditions begin; School is back in session, the garden is dying out, and the days are shorter. Depending on how you look at it, each could be a downer. There is one tradition that surpasses all and it is worth the seasonal changes. The Great American Beer Fest is back! Held every year at this time in Denver, CO. Thousands of people, from the curious to the hopheads, gather together for beer's equivalent to Gen Con. It's every beer geek's time to honor the nectar they love. Too bad it is sold out.
This year surpasses the past, selling out five weeks before the event has even started, setting a record for most attendance. The brewery list is extensive with more than 450 brewers and over 2,000 different beers. The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes this event as the largest place to find beers on tap in the world. The Louisville and Southern Indiana area will have 6 breweries representing this year: Cumberland, Bluegrass Brewing Company, Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company, Sun King Brewery, Turoni's (Evansville, IN), and Upland Brewing (Bloomington, IN). Surprisingly, there are no breweries registered from the Cincinnati area, especially with all of the recent growth from Christian Moerlein in the past year.
