Ga Rep.Tom Graves offers different vision for America in response to SOTU speech

U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ga) responded to President Barack Obama's State of the Union 2014 address with his own You Tube video, where the congressman proposed a starkly different vision for America.

"I agree that we need to get the economy going so that millions of unemployed Americans can find good paying jobs," said Graves. "However, the President and I disagree on the government's role in this agenda. He sees Washington and himself as a source of opportunity, while I see them as the roadblock to economic progress."

Graves talked about touring local companies in his 14th congressional district in Georgia recently, where he saw not only how jobs and economic opportunities are created, but also how unnecessary government regulation and taxes "crash" good paying jobs.

"It's a hard truth that the President's vision denies," Graves said. "Too often when a person in need reaches out for an opportunity and a potential employer reaches back, the government is in a way. The President would rather promote the benefits of unemployment than address his policies that have blocked the paychecks and joys of true employment. He seems to be satisfied with you making a minimum wage, after his own health care law has forced employers to cut your hours and pay.

"These aren't plans for enduring prosperity; the government is just trying to fix its own mistakes."

Graves offered his own vision, proposing lower taxes and more work hours to produce higher wages, a health care system with more choices, lower prices and no mandates, local control of transportation projects to offer access to more job opportunities, and a "free market approach to energy" to lower prices of gas and food.

"Freeing America's businesses to go on offense in a global market, rather than playing defense against Washington's regulations," Graves said in conclusion. "For us in North Georgia, it just means unleashing all the potential within every person. Opportunity through freedom, that's the story of America's greatness and a guide for enduring prosperity."
