On Monday, the chairwoman of the Georgia GOP Faith-Based Outreach Committee Terri Green called on the Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn to denounce an endorsement by a pro-choice liberal organization Emily's List.
Nunn, who is new to politics, is running to replace retiring senior Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga).
Emily's List, a political action committee (PAC) focused on electing pro-choice Democratic women to office, endorsed Nunn calling the U.S. Senate race in Georgia one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2014.
"Service leader Michelle Nunn is the perfect candidate for what will be one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races," said Emily's List endorsement. "As CEO of Points of Light, which engages millions of volunteers each year to help solve the world’s pressing challenges, Michelle – who calls service a “unifying platform” – is uniquely prepared to tackle what has become the chamber’s trademark cynicism and division."
Georgia GOP didn't waste any time highlighting the endorsement at a time when Nunn is trying to position herself as a centrist candidate who is focused on getting things done in Washington instead of playing partisan politics.
"The endorsement of Michelle Nunn's Senatorial Campaign by EMILY's List comes as no surprise," said Green in a statement. "Despite Nunn's attempts to paint herself as an independent problem solver, we all know that she's a calculated liberal, who will work tirelessly to advance the Obama Agenda by voting lock-step with Harry Reid and other left-wing Democrats in the U.S. Senate."
Green called Emily's List a "radical" liberal group that supports taxpayer-funded abortions, and an endorsement by such organization proves, according to Green, how "out-of-touch" Nunn is with "pro-life" Georgia.
"If Michelle Nunn wants to continue her overt ruse, she should at least denounce the support of EMILY's List and pledge to protect Georgia's conservative values at all costs," said Green.
While Nunn doesn't align herself with Washington Democrats, she is openly pro-choice.
