Ga District 3: Westmoreland is against President's gun control proposals (Video)

U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga), who represents Georgia’s 3rd congressional district, said in a statement on Wednesday that he opposes President Barack Obama's gun control measures and that the key reason for increasing gun violence in America is deterioration of a strong family unit.

The “erosion of moral values” and growing popularity of violent video games, TV shows and movies have led the American youth on a road to brutality while their busy parents no longer notice abnormal behavior, said Westmoreland in a statement.

He also strongly condemned the President for plans to skip the legislative process and issue executive orders on some of the gun control measures.

"It seems to me whenever this president wants to do something, he issues an Executive Order. I think he gets confused at the difference between a republic and a dictatorship,” says Westmoreland in his press release. “So let me be clear here. Any attempt to infringe on someone’s Second Amendment right to bear arms must be approved by Congress and I can tell you that will absolutely not happen nor will I ever support any bill that does so.

“In his usual fashion, the president wants to fix every problem with more government. But Executive Orders will not fix the true causes of mass murders like we have seen at Sandy Hook or in Aurora because the government cannot legislate morals. Instead of using these tragedies to push his liberal agenda for gun control, he should have focused on the true reasons these horrible events happen.”
