Georgia Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.) voted today for Georgia Rep. John Lewis for House Minority Leader, picking his Georgia colleague over the 112th Congress Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The vote took place in the early afternoon, shortly after 12, and prior to Thursday Barrow indicated he might not vote for Pelosi, due to her heavily liberal positions.
Barrow, who won a difficult re-election in 2012 in his 12th District, is a Blue Dog Democrat who has a centrist voting record. Barrow is a proponent of non-partisan politics.
Pelosi, who was the first female Majority Leader and the highest ranking female politician in American history thus far, has been associated in recent years with the divisive politics in Washington.
John Lewis represents Georgia’s 5th Congressional District. Lewis is a well-known civil rights activist who was one of the Big Six leaders in the American Civil Rights Movement.
