Ga District 1: Kingston reappointed to Defense Appropriations Subcommittee

U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga) released a statement today about his appointment to the House Subcommittee on Defense Appropriations which deals with national security and military programs and operations in U.S. and overseas.

“As long as we have troops putting their lives on the line in the defense of this country, national security must be our top priority,” said Kingston. “As a member of this subcommittee, I have worked to defend important programs for our men and women in uniform while also identifying functions I think we can live without. Over the next two years, I hope we can continue our bipartisan efforts in that joint endeavor.

“This subcommittee not only provides for our national security operations but it provides for the health and well-being of our service members and their families,” he continued. “Representing four major military installations that house every service branch and countless military families, those programs are of special interest to me and I will work to make sure they are carried out efficiently and effectively.”

Rep. Kingston represents Georgia’s 1st congressional district. The southern district with a large coastline region is home to four military bases:

Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, at Kings Bay in Camden County

Fort Stewart, near Hinesville in Liberty County

Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah

Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta

In addition, Kingston’s district is home to a National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center in Savannah, the Georgia Air National Guard’s 165th Airlift Wing, and the Townsend Bombing Range operated by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Earlier today, the Georgia lawmaker tweeted about his appointment:

“I’m honored to continue working for our troops & their families on the Defense Appropriations Committee.”
