So G.I. Joe 2 is finally gaining some steam after being rather quiet ever since Stephen Sommers hopped out of the director's chair and Jon Chu sat down. Yes, the same Jon Chu that just directed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Yet, he had great success with that film and working with a script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, G.I. Joe 2 has a good chance of being successful.
Well, first let it be known that a release date has now been set and the Joes will battle the Cobras officially on August 10, 2012 to kind of put an end cap on the summer blockbuster session.
Next up is that some of you may be surprised but only a small handful of characters from the first film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, will return for the second movie.
SlashFilm (thanks to Rachel Nichols aka Scarlett) announced the other day that only Storm Shadow (Lee Byung-hun), Duke (Channing Tatum), and Snake Eyes (Ray Park) will be back for G.I. Joe 2. While Paramount hasn't actually confirmed this yet, it seems rather legit.
So on the outs would be Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, and Marlon Wayans (thank God). Also seemingly not coming back is Joseph Gordon-Levitt who looked to be the returning villain from the first film as Cobra Commander. Guess they're going to really change things up in the script.
Well, not much else is known about the film at all really with no plot or any other actors being revealed yet so it's just wait and see from here.
