FX's 'Archer' renewed for Season 5

FX animated series "Archer" has been renewed for Season 5, the cable network announced Wednesday (Feb. 27).

"'Archer' is one the very best comedy series on television," FX's Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development Nick Grad said in a statement.

"It is truly rewarding the way in which the audience and fans have embraced their work and that the ratings continue to grow. The quality of 'Archer' is undeniable."

The fifth season of the Adam Reed-created spy comedy will consist of 13 episodes, which are likely to air in 2014.

FX also announced that they will submit "Archer" into the best comedy series Emmy category this year for the first time. Most animated comedies such as "South Park" and "The Simpsons" are submitted in the Outstanding Animated Program category, with the exception of FOX's "Family Guy," which earned a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2009.

The voice cast for the series includes H. Jon Benjamin, Judy Greer, Aisha Tyler and Jessica Walter.

The show's ratings have risen 36 percent in the adults 18-49 demo this season and 44% in the 18-34 demo. It currently ranks as the second highest-rated cable series among men 18-34 behind "The Walking Dead."

"Archer" continues Thursdays at 10/9 p.m. CT on FX. The current season, which has seven new episodes remaining, ends April 11 with the second of a two-part finale.
