Future bright for two Canadian snowboarders

With the 2014 Olympic Games just over a year away, the immediate future looks very bright for slopestyle snowboarders Spencer O'Brien of Vancouver, British Columbia and Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Both O'Brien and McMorris are now on their way to Aspen, Colorado for the 2013 Winter X Games from January 24-27 after exceptional performances at the World Snowboarding Championships. According to O'Brien's twitter account, O'Brien was leaving for Colorado on Sunday.

According to the International Ski Federation website, O'Brien won the women's slopestyle snowboarding competition on Friday at the 2013 World Snowboarding Championships in Stoneham, Quebec with McMorris finishing in second place in the men's slopestyle snowboarding competition to Roope Tonteri of Finland.

In slopestyle snowboarding, athletes do a number of tricks that includes spins, grabs, grinds and flips. It was one of several new events that will take place next year at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
