Futsalroos forced to settle for draw

The Futsalroos are in action at the ASEAN qualifiers for the 2012 AFC Futsal Championships and after a convincing 15-0 victory over Cambodia to open the tournament, the Futsalroos were made to settle for a 4-4 draw with Malaysia in their second match.

Australia got off to a dream start when Shervin Adeli and Lachlan Wright both scored in the first minute to give the Futsalroos a 2-0 lead.

In the 11th minute Malaysia pulled one back thanks to Qaiser Heshaam before Danny Ngaluafe restored their two goal advantage before the break with his fourth goal of the tournament.

Halftime obviously did Malaysia a lot of good as they scored almost immediately after the break as Zubaidi bin Alwee scored to make it 3-2 and it would stay that way until the final five minutes when the match really opened up.

Australian captain Greg Giovenali scored to have Australia sitting comfortably 4-2 up and seemingly headed for victory.

Malaysia had other ideas and clawed one back through Asmie Amir as time started to run out.

Despite that goal the Futsalroos still looked like running out winners until the unthinkable happened right at the death as Australia conceded a penalty allowing Ahmad Fawzul to score the penalty and earn Malaysia a 4-4 draw.

The result keeps the Futsalroos on top of Group B and a result on Thursday against Vietnam would secure passage to the next stage.
