At the 2013 Houston Auto Show, Ford Motor Company made the announcement that Connected World has just named the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi the “Most Connected Car”. Also the new Energi version of the popular C-Max was debuted for the Texas market.
Connected World magazine is widely considered the go-to online magazine for upwardly mobile professionals interested in trends, innovations, and emerging technologies.
The all-new Fusion Energi was on special display prior to the show opening. Mr. Robert “Rob” Iorio held a special press conference on media day, January 23, to discuss the various aspects and benefits of the Fusion Energi. Rob Iorio is known as Ford’s electrification person, although his actual title is “Manager, HEV Propulsion Systems Engineering and Sustainable Mobility Tech, Product Development.”
The Fusion Energi utilizes lithium ion batteries, but is not 100% electric and is therefore classified as a hybrid. Some hybrids use both a gasoline engine and battery packs. The Energi is called a “plug-in hybrid” because it has the advantages of the plug-in electric, but also operates on a gas-powered engine when necessary. The standard hybrid vehicles normally regenerate their own power back into the battery packs and do not have the plug-in feature.
The Fusion Energi is rated at 108 mpg equivalent, making it the most fuel-efficient midsize car in the world, according to the press conference.
Both the regular versions of the Ford Fusion and Ford C-Max are attractive and popular best sellers. The Energi models of both have the same features and attractiveness. The C-Max Energi offers a combination of fuel efficiency and technology. The cargo entry area is being called “hands-free opening” which allows the driver to wave their foot under the back side and the tailgate lifts open without the need of pushing a key fob, button, or pulling a lever.
Ford’s press conference emphasized that fuel-efficient plug-in hybrids are becoming more mainstreamed and as consumers more aware of their advantages, they will become more so.
The Houston Auto Show is being held at the Reliant Center and is open to the public through January 27, 2013.
