Harbour View Gallery welcomes visiting artists Francine Gerson and Steve Conley for February. The gallery will hold a Visiting Artists Reception on Tuesday, February 5, from 6-8 p.m.
Gerson works in fused glass. Her process begins with visualizing how a finished piece will look with light from the front and from behind. She usually starts by placing pieces of iridescent transparent glass from the same color family on a clear or colored backing. Then she adds pieces of contrasting glass, rotating the creation throughout the process so that she can see it from different directions. Then she fires the pieces once or twice to get the desired effect and shape.
Francine's art training started early at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Art Institute. She learned stained glass at the Standing Rock Studio, Kent OH. Francine learned to create fused glass about seven years ago at the Center for the Arts in Bonita Springs and the Cape Coral Arts Studio.
Gerson was commissioned to create the League of Environmental Educators Vision Award. She was also awarded 2nd place at the Big Arts of Sanibel for her piece "Zen".
Francine loves working with her two granddaughters. Watching them express themselves in fused glass is great, but she considers seeing their faces upon presenting the finished piece to be priceless.
