When a board member with Furkidz911 read my article about the 3 Dalmations who lost their owner in an accident, she inquired if the rescue could assist with their placement. Initially, the thought was no, as Furkidz911 was set up to help shelter dogs from around Washington state, rather than owner surrendered dogs. Another board member read the article and assumed that another rescue would step up to assist the ownerless dogs, but decided to email Sharyn, the niece of the deceased owner, just in case. Sharyn let the rescue know that nobody was able to help place the 3 bonded dogs together, so the board members of Furkidz911 unanimously decided to step up and take the 3 Dalmations into their care. Arrangements were set up to receive them the following week.
In the interim, another reader of the article contacted Sharyn and decided to adopt the 3 Dalmations together. Sharyn sent an email to Furkidz911, letting them know that a wondeful family had met, adopted and quickly fell in love with the 3 dogs, and she wouldn't need to turn them over to the rescue. Obviously, this is a wonderful outcome for all involved! As the board members of Furkidz said, "This was such exciting news, and this is why we do rescue."
It's my honor to be able to share news about Furkidz911; not only because all rescues deserve acknowledgement and support, but because they went above and beyond their own established rescue guidelines and stepped up to help 3 dogs who were in an unusual and sad predicament.
Furkidz911 has already helped many last chance rescue dogs and there are many happy tails that they are proud to share. Molly and Maggie were abandoned at a house by their owner - left for dead. When the 2 dogs ended up at a shelter, they were put on the dogs in danger list, not uncommon for shepherd mixes and Am Staffordshire mixes. The rescue was able to take them in and find them loving homes. A sadly high percentage of dogs in this same predicament would have surely been euthanized without the help of Furkidz.
Another wonderful success story is that of Kaylee, a shepherd-mix who was also on a "dogs in danger" list at a shelter. Kaylee came to the rescue terribly thin after delivering puppies several months before. One of the rescue's board members, Abde, fostered this special girl, even though his busy life was not truly conducive to the needs of a dog. Abde and Kaylee developed a special bond and it was quickly apparent that they were not to be separated. Not only was Kaylee saved, but she is to be forever loved by the very rescue that saved her. Today, Abde and Kaylee are inseparable and the busy life that was a previous issue, has been adjusted.
Furkidz is happy to share their other happy endings at their website's "Happy Tails" section. Currently, they are hoping to add Bailey, an 8 yr old American Cocker Spaniel, to their happy tails list. When Bailey first arrived at Furkidz, he was by all accounts, grumpy. The volunteers took him to their vet and discovered that he was suffering with a ruptured ear drum and facial nerve damage. It's no wonder he was grumpy! After treatment and a good haircut, he is once again a sweet boy and ready for his own forever family. If you are interested in adopting Bailey, please take a moment to visit Furkidz911's website.
Although Furkidz911 is a relatively new rescue, they are off to a great start. The rescue has already secured it's 501(c)3 status and has successfully placed many dogs that were on the euthanasia list. If you are interested in helping with their cause, they can join at this link for Facebook. As with other rescues, resources are limited and donations are greatly appreciated. If you are interested in learning about donating, or possibly fostering, for the rescue (homebase of Mill Creek, WA), please visit the website directly - Furkidz911.org.
This is the best type of story to share. News that the 3 Dalmations, who so tragically lost their owner in a dreadful accident, have found safe haven, and news that a wonderful, local rescue was willing to step up to give them the help that they needed.
Many are right for fostering, perhaps it could be you. Please read Who is right for Fostering? And many are right for adopting, even seniors. Read Consider adopting an older dog to find out why.
Help this article read out to others who may not know about it. It would be wonderful to see everyone in Washington State learn about Furkidz911 and there are many who read about the 3 Dalmations initially, who would be pleased to hear about their successful adoption. Thank you for reading, thank you for sharing this article with others!
