Late night fans of Jimmy Kimmel are familiar with his so-called feud with Matt Damon, who kidnapped the comedian last year and hijacked his show for an entire hour. Well, on Feb. 6, Jimmy Kimmel finally got his revenge on the Oscar winner. The TV clip featuring their antics earns this week’s honors as funniest.
According to E!online, Matt Damon was on hand on Thursday night, along with the entire cast of the new movie “Monument Men,” which releases nationwide on Feb. 7. George Clooney, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchete and Bob Balaban all chatted with Kimmel about their new film. After a commercial break, Jimmy stated begrudgingly on-air:
Well, I’m told I have to bring out our next guest. Our next guest is an actor, who at best has only one Oscar. He’s here because the band didn’t show up. Please welcome the least of the 'Monument Men,' Matt Damon.
The infamous blue wall went up and out walked Matt Damon, with a none-to-pleased look on his face. When Jimmy Kimmel realized that there wasn’t room on the couch, nor was there a chair for Damon, he interrupted his interview with the cast and instructed Guillermo to “get the baby his chair.” Damon was presented with a simple wooden kitchen chair, causing a round of laughter throughout the audience.
An unfazed Kimmel continued his interview with Clooney, while a seemingly embarrassed Damon looked on. Jimmy never missed a beat and ignored Matt Damon. George Clooney couldn’t hide his chuckle during the prank, but continued to play along. In fact, the entire cast went on with the entire interview as if Damon wasn’t even present. The segment was very funny and drew round after round of laughter.
The funniest part of the clip came at the end when Kimmel aired a supposed scene from “Monument Men.” It showed Matt coming out of a pool dripping wet and jumping on his gay lover. “It’s not the same movie,” Damon sputtered, referring to his role as Liberace’s live-in partner in the HBO film “Behind the Candelabra.”
So, the funny feud that began way back continues. May it never end. Good stuff.
