Disney's Tangled was a surprise hit for the studio when it debuted late last year, not because people didn't think it was going to be any good...but because Pixar wasn't the studio behind the film. For the past decade or so, all the really big money-makers at Disney have been Pixar films, but Tangled (in 3D) broke the mold. Think it had anything to do with Disney's subliminal advertising? "What subliminal advertising," you ask? Keep on reading for the evidence, my gentle Examiner readers...
We're big fans of Pixar's work with Disney here at Comedy Examiner HQ: There's simply no one better at making kids' movies seem like adult fair, and Pixar simply hasn't ever made a bad film (no, really: with the possible exception of Cars, every last one of Pixar's films has been outstanding). You know who else is a big fan of Pixar? Disney, who earns a big chunk of change every time Pixar releases a film into the wild.
But Disney can still make profitable animated films without Pixar's help. For evidence, look no further than Tangled, the 3D, animated film that arrived late last year. Tangled earn a massive amount of money at the box office without bearing a single Pixar fingerprint, and it's clear that Disney's proud of their in-house work. They're also proud of the ad campaign they designed for the film, which many people praised for being "hip", "funny", and "modern"-- three words that aren't necessarily associated with Disney in general.
We're wondering if Disney's Tangled ads didn't have a secret ingredient, though. If you look at the photo over there on the left (you'll have to click on the "Slideshow" box to see it for yourselves), you'll see that there seems to be an embedded, hidden phrase in one of Disney's Tangled ads. This wouldn't be the first time that Disney's been accused of slipping inappropriate, subliminal advertising into its kids' fare (who can forget the Lion King "Sex Scandal" of the early 90's? Yeah, so did we), but it is the most recent.
Click the box and see the subliminal Tangled ad for yourself, folks.
