Funny man takes a serious turn in The Grace Card

This Friday, February 25, you can “witness the power of forgiveness” with the theatrical opening of The Grace Card by Graceworks Pictures and Calvary Pictures.

Although promising to be a “gritty drama,” the director David Evans decided to go with a comedian in the lead role. Michael Joiner is best known as one of the nation’s funniest “clean” comedians. In addition to his stand up comedy routine, Joiner has written for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and produced the horror comedy short film, Thanks For the Ride. Not familiar with him? Check out his website.

For The Grace Card, Joiner puts on his serious hat playing tough cop, Mac McDonald who loses his son in an accident and takes up resentment with God and his family. He is given a new partner, Sam Wright (Michael Higgenbottom), who is a rising star on the force and also, just happens to be a part-time pastor making the two a unique odd couple. Academy Award® winner, Louis Gossett Jr. plays Wright’s father.

The Grace Card is an independent, faith-based film that has taken advantage of a talented crew of Hollywood professionals and local volunteers from Memphis, Tennessee. Producer and writer, Howard Klausner is well known for his script of Space Cowboys (directed by Clint Eastwood) and Producer John Saunders has two decades of industry experience including Walk the Line and Leatherheads. The grassroots film’s cast features many in their first “big screen” roles.
