Comedy is subjective - everyone has different tastes when it  comes to what's funny. Which is why the Funniest Comic in Texas 2010 contest (or Dallas/Fort Worth, if you will) will, most likely, have something for everyone. (It would be nice if the entire state of Texas were actually encompassed in this forum, but with auditions only being held at the Improv in Addison and Arlington, it's unlikely that comics from Houston, Austin and San Antonio will be driving up for a spot. But worry not, kids, every big city in Texas has their own contest and their very own funny people.)

Much like NBC's "Last Comic Standing", the folks who ended up in last year's "Funniest Comic in DFW" finals were not new to the world of comedy. In other words, don't expect to see a ‘new guy' win against these seasoned pros. 2009's winner and this year's host, Paul Varghese, has been a stand-up comic for many years. His credits include Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, and Telemundo 2's Loco Comedy Jam, just to name a few. He travels all over the country as a headliner, as do many of the other finalists from last year's contest. They've all worked very hard to get where they are, which is obvious when you see them on stage.

The entire contest will undoubtedly take several months to complete, as it did last year. If you're interested in signing up, you can contact the Improv at:
Here's what they need from you, by February 15th, if you please:
1. Your real name
2. Your ‘stage name'
3. Location you want to perform at (Arlington Improv or Addison Improv).
4. Total amount of stage material, i.e. how much time can you do?
5. How long you have been doing comedy?
6. How you learned about the FCiT? (Feel free to drop a name.)
7. Phone Number or Contact Details.

They will send you a confirmation email with your performance date. The Stand-Up Comedy Examiner will be covering the shows, as well as talking to many of the comics who are vying for the prize of $1500 and the chance to feature for a headlining comic at either the Addison or Arlington Improv. If Mr. Varghese isn't too busy, there may be an interview with him as well. Cross your fingers.

Dallas is lucky to have such a plethora of comedy genius in our own backyard. Go check it out. Seriously.
