Funko Magic 2015 planeswalker figures packaging revealed

If I said Ajani didn't look badass, I'd be lion!

Not long ago, it was announced that Wizards of the Coast was partnering with toy company Funko to produce a type of Magic merchandise that hasn't been seen in a long time: Character action figures. Now, Kotaku has uncovered the packages for each of the six-inch Magic 2015 planeswalker figures for Ajani, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, Nissa, and Garruk, along with concept sculpts for all of them.

Notably, the Liliana and Chandra figures respectively feature the art from Liliana Vess and Chandra, Pyromaster on their boxes, but all of the others have never-before-seen arts in their identifying circles. This could be an indicator that all four of the remaining planeswalkers get new cards in Magic 2015 (reprinting a planeswalker card entirely with new art doesn't tend to happen outside of Duel Decks). Four totally new planeswalker cards is unusual for a core set, of course - but so is having six planeswalkers. Magic 2013 did it with Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, so there is definitely precedent, even though we don't actually know for sure that Nissa is in the set.

All in all, the figures look character-accurate, but there is no word as to the level of articulation they'll have as of yet. They're posed pretty stiffly and unnaturally out of box, so hopefully it'll be possible to get them in card artwork-accurate positions.
