Funeral arrangements for Chicago bassist Nick Tountas, who died Friday morning, have been announced.
Visitation takes place Sunday afternoon (tomorrow) from 4 till 9 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 1104 Waukegan Road in Glenview. Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 10:30 Monday morning – after additional visitation starting a half-hour earlier – at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Road in Glenview.
In the 24 hours since it was made public, Tountas’s departure has elicited an outpouring of memories, expressed by e-mail and on Facebook – further evidence of the regard in which he was held in the Chicago jazz community.
Tountas will be laid to rest in Maryhill Cemetery in Niles. Those wishing to express condolences can also sign a “virtual guest book” here.
