WINNIPEG ― Artists Don Amero, Alaska Cameron, Segweh, Lorenzo, Sonia Eidse, Bonnie Couchir, Blair Goudie, Nick Sherman, and Moe Clark have partnered with Dustin Harder and Dusty Roads Band for a special night of Aboriginal music, on March 3, 2012, at 5 Fifty-Five Osborne. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the performances will begin at 8 p.m.
The evening is a fundraiser for 8 Days in May, Eh! Urban Gatherings (8DM), which will take place on May 4-26. Created in 2010, this annual festival celebrates new forms of Aboriginal music by artists across Canada. This year's line-up of performers includes Leanne Goose from Inuvik, Northwest Territories, and Gabriel Ayala from Tucson, Arizona.
"I love my First Nations heritage," says Dustin Harder, 8DM's founder and music director, in an email. "The drums, the chants, the lively fiddle music all speak to my heart. But I love the new sounds Aboriginal musicians are making too, in all genres of music. Eight Days in May, Eh, has been a chance to broaden horizons, and give people who think they’ve heard everything there is to hear in Aboriginal music some fresh experiences!”
