Fund Raising 5K for NOMMA Sports

In order for many schools to have sports programs they must find ways to raise funds to support their sports programs. Being a new high school, not having yet to graduate its’ first class, The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy has to start from scratch. Just recently NOMMA held the first 5K fund raising event for the purpose of raising funds for NOMMA athletics. The event yielded a number of sponsors and many motivated participants.

The 5K run/walk was held at Federal City in Algiers (the westbank of New Orleans) where the school is also located. The weather was great and the enthusiastic runners and walkers seemed to enjoy the event immensely.

Nomma will be participating as a new class 2A member of the LHSAA; The Louisiana High School Athletic Association for the next school year on provisional first year status. In the 2015-16 school year NOMMA could possibly move up to 3A as the student body numbers increase. The Marine Corp JROTC Academy has already participated in JV boys and girls basketball, soccer, and wrestling with plans to expand the programs and add others for the 2014-15 academic year.

Best wishes to NOMMA in future fundraising efforts and sports performance. Anyone wishing to make a donation to NOMMA Athletics may do so by contacting the Academy at 504-227-3810 or at 425 O’Bannon Street New Orleans, LA 70114.
