Functional uses of plants (Video)

Plants can have many uses aside from just sitting there and looking nice! They can do so much more.

Have an objectionable view? Plants can be used to screen out things you do not want to see. Look for large, evergreen shrubs, or trees that are either coniferous or broadleaf evergreen. Vines grown on a trellis can also work as a screen.

Have a great view? Plants can help with that too! Strategically placed trees can frame a view, enhancing the view by creating more depth.

Too windy? If you live in an area where the winds blow much of the year, planting a vegetative wind break can help. Keep in mind the distance and height of the screen is an important consideration. Too far away and you will not notice a change. Wind breaks should be composed of plants that have leaves and branches from the ground up, such as conifers and dense broadleaf evergreen shrubs.
