Fun ways to get Houston kids fit

Who says fitness has to be boring? Exercise should be a fun experience, especially when kids are involved. Here are some fun ways Houston kids can get fit. The best thing about all these options is that you don't even have to tell the kids it's exercise. It will be just like playtime to them.

The Children's Museum of Houston has a great permanent exhibit called PowerPlay. It's packed with fun activities like rock climbing, dancing, hands-on learning, and so much more. Watch the video at the end of this article to learn more about PowerPlay.

In a recent writeup, I discussed How to make exercise fun for kids, mentioning various activities for families. Making exercise fun is key to success and consistency. Houston has some amazing parks and nature conservancies that can lend a hand in this. Click here for information on a few of those, including advice on taking nature walks with kids. Nature walks and museum trips are just one of many ways parents help get Houston kids fit with fun.

Nature walks are not the only way to enjoy family exercise at Houston's parks and conservancies. Have you and your family ever tried a nature scavenger hunt? This can be a great bonding experience, as well as provide great exercise from all the running, bending over to collect items, and so on. Nature scavenger hunts can be done at a park, in a backyard, at a campsite, and anywhere else nature is present.

What about moms and babies (or even dads and siblings too) at the park? Parents need exercise and infants and kids may enjoy getting out of the house and in nature. Stroller exercises are great for losing that post-baby weight and also a great way to socialize. Families may also find it to be a wonderful bonding experience.

There are many great ways for families to exercise together. The common factor that should be present is fun. Use the ides above or use your family's imaginations. In no time, your family be having so much fun exercising, you may forget it's even a workout and that's a good thing.
