Since the New England hot spot is geared towards summer vacationers, there is more than enough to do. Enjoy the summer sun on beautiful beaches or try your hand at mini golf. You can enjoy seafood at one of the many local restaurants that serve up clam cakes, scallops and whole boiled lobsters served with a side of butter to dip in. Vermont

The state of Vermont is verdant and filled with nature, making it the perfect summer getaway. In addition, the state is chock full of things to do and see. Like ice cream? Visit the official Ben & Jerry's factory, where you can learn about the history of the company with a movie presentation, tour the factory where they produce the famous pints, and even sample some Ben & Jerry's ice cream at the end. Enjoy a hike on one of Vermont's many mountainous trails for a true taste of Vermont. Or you can visit the Teddy Bear Factory and learn more about how the cute stuffed critters come into creation, hand made to your liking. Check out the action packed city of Burlington, where there's always live music, fancy stores, delicious cafes, great restaurants and bars, and tons of people watching.

Maine

Maine has so much to offer during the summer that it's no wonder that people pack up the car and go there in droves. Its attractions and summer popularity are so well known, the state is affectionately referred to as "Summerland". Maine has a seemingly inexhaustible list of things to do and places to see. The big city of Portland has lighthouse coves where you can walk around lighthouses right next to the ocean, or catch a bite to eat at one of the many acclaimed restaurants and eateries in town, such as Duckfat, which serves Belgian-style fries fried in duck fat, paninis, soups, and salads sourced with ingredients from local farms. Check out the beach, or hit up one of Maine's many outdoor destinations. There is no shortage of things to do or experience when it comes to this fantastic New England vacation state.

Your Backyard

Many people underestimate the fact that you can have a great vacation in your very own back yard. Have kids? Set up a tent and a fire out back and camp out for a night or two. Just because you're home doesn't mean you can't have your very own escape! Get sleeping bags and pillows and pull out as many ingredients that you can roast on a fire as possible, like smores, corn wrapped in foil, and bananas filled with peanut butter and chocolate chips. With a jar to catch fireflies and glow sticks, you'll have fun for hours without ever leaving town.
