Fun outdoor activities for Long Islanders this weekend, August 26-28

Summer is quickly winding down and there are still plenty of great outdoor activities to be enjoyed around Long Island before the warm weather departs.  Delicious Italian fare, rides, games, boat racing, and fresh local seafood are just some of the things in store for Long Islanders this coming weekend.  Take a look at what’s happening:

Sons of Italy Cellini Annual Italian Festival, Michael Tully Park-North Hempstead Pool, 1801 Evergreen Ave., New Hyde Park

Beginning Wednesday, August 24th, the Sons of Italy Cellini Lodge in New Hyde Park is putting on one of the island’s best Italian festivals, with great food, live music, rides, games of chance and more.  Check out the Sons of Italy website below for more information.

Mother Cabrini Italian Feast, Suffolk County Community College, 1001 Crooked Hill Rd., Brentwood

Boasting a quarter-mile long food court, this huge Italian festival has it all, with games, rides, music, and even a zeppole eating contest.  This Italian Feast runs for two weekends, with fireworks displays on Saturday, August 27thand Sunday, September 4th.  Check out the Feast’s web page below for details.

Battle on the Bay Powerboat Racing, East Islip Marina, 333 Bayview Ave., East Islip

This annual event is always good fun!  It all begins on Friday when East Islip’s Marina and then Main Street become a showcase for some of the fastest powerboats in the world.  The boats are paraded towards downtown Sayville, where they begin practice runs in the Great South Bay in preparation for the big races on Sunday.  All sorts of craft and food vendors will be on hand.  Check out the website below for more.

20thAnnual Seafood Festival and Craft Fair, Long Island Maritime Museum, 86 West Ave., Sayville

This two-day fundraising event to benefit the museum’s goals of celebrating and preserving the “sights, sounds, taste and history of the Long Island’s great south shore” is a popular festival for Long Islanders near and far.  With incredible seafood dishes, pirate shows, public sails, and all kinds of other activities, this one is perfect for a beautiful summer’s weekend spent with family and friends.  Visit the museum’s website below for more details.
