Halloween is over and you may be left with more candy than you know what to do with. Here are some ideas to help get rid of those extra sweet treats:
Donate It: Operation Shoebox was founded in 2003 in an effort to send support, snacks and much needed personal care items to our troops deployed outside of the USA. Right now they are looking for candy donations which they will use to make Christmas care packages for the troops. Candy can be sent to: Operation Shoebox, 8360 East Highway 25, Belleview, Fl. 34420. You can find out more about Operation Shoebox at operationshoebox.com
Cook With It: There are a ton of recipes that you can use your leftover candy for. Just do a google search for "Recipe Ideas For Halloween Candy" and you will be sure to find some delicious treats. Some favorites that I have tried are M&M Cookies and Candy Corn Pancakes.
Thanksgiving Crafts: Did you know that you could make a chocolate turkey with 2 mini Reeses Cups, 1 Hershey Kiss, 1 yellow Starburst, 1 red Starburst, 1 orange Starburst and 6 almond slices? It's an easy and fun edible craft that will make a nice decoration and dessert for Thanksgiving. You can find the instructions here.
Halloween Candy Buyback: Halloween Candy Buyback is a program that many dentists get involved with each Halloween season. The dentists "buy back" the kids candy at a scheduled event. They buy it back different ways, such as with cash, toothbrushes and food coupons. All the candy that is collected is sent to Operation Gratitude, which in turn ships the candy to deployed U.S. Military members. Visit halloweencandybuyback.com and enter your zip code to find a participating dentist near you.
