Well, it’s finally the end of the week and time for Fun Friday!
Check out these super cool sunglasses created by LEGO® and Lynx Optique, a French optical company. You can build your designs with the cute LEGO building bricks onto the red side frames. Love it! Now that’s what I call thinking outside of the box.

Aren’t LEGO building bricks cool? What an iconic shape. Everyone has great memories of wondrous creations from his or her childhood.
LEGO sets are one of my top five gift ideas, especially for grandparents to give for presents. My teenage son still has all his Star Wars sets that his grandparents gave him for birthday and Christmas presents, and my son will be able to pass them down to his kids someday - a long, long time from now. My nine-year-old son received a lot of Christmas money this year. I guess that’s what happens when your birthday is December 25th. We brainstormed for days what he wanted to buy with his money. After much deliberation, we made a special trip to the LEGO store in Woodfield Mall, here in Chicago, so he could spend his money. He picked out the biggest LEGO building set that he could buy, and we all took a turn carrying the huge package through the mall.
Recently perusing the fantastic LEGO website, I found out all sorts of great information:
- LEGO bricks come in 55 different colors. Don’t you just love the sharpness and intensity of the color of each LEGO brick?
- There are 2,200 types of LEGO pieces, manufactured at a rate of 36,000 per minute.
- Seven sets are sold each second in over 130 countries.
- Over 400 million children and adults will play with LEGO bricks this year.
- With over 306 million tires made each year, the LEGO group is the world’s largest tire manufacturer.
- LEGO is the fifth largest toy manufacturer in the world.
The LEGO website is very simple to navigate for adults and kids: full of lesson plans and ideas for teachers, wide variety of information for parents, and something for every age child. The LEGO Learning Institute is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary and I found all the research and resources fascinating, especially all the research on play and creativity.
So, for Fun Friday, I suggest that you get down on the floor and build something with LEGO bricks… and then walk around the house proudly and show everyone.
I have to mention the two awards that we have bestowed on our LEGO bricks in our family:
LEGO bricks received the coveted "Toy Most Likely to Step on in the Middle of the Night" Award and the "Toy Most Painful to Step On" Award.
Am I right parents???
Have a fun day!
