Many homeschool families enjoy spending time in nature and camping is a natural fit for these adventurous families. The Arizona State Parks department has a wonderful opportunity for families who would like to learn how to camp. It’s called the 2013 Arizona Family Campout Program and it is only being held during the months of March and April. Program dates and spots available are almost gone so you have to act quickly for an opportunity in April to take advantage of this great program.
The parks department hopes to inspire families to take up camping and will give everyone everything they need to try it for a weekend. They chose some of the best camping sites in Arizona for this program so chances are good that the camping bug will be caught. All the family will need is sleeping bags, pillows, clothes, sturdy shoes and personal items. For a list of what the park provides, please see their web site at http://azstateparks.com/family/index.html.
The family campout weekend only serves 10 families at a time. This small number makes it easy for families to ask questions or seek help. Depending upon weather and other variables, the activities featured are: Guided Hikes • Mountain Bike Clinic • Archery • Geocaching • Fishing Clinic • Live Animal Demonstrations • Campfire Stories • Presentations on Geography, Birding, Geology, Astronomy.( http://azstateparks.com/family/index.html#activities).
Even food is included! The park will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. They also generously provide drinks, snacks and campfire goodies!
You must hurry if you want to attend. Only a few spots are left. The fee for this is $65 for up to a family of 4. After that, family members are only $5 more per person. Children under five and pets cannot take part in this particular event. Please visit the park web site to register and to see which parks and dates are available for your camping adventure! http://azstateparks.com/family/index.html.
