What a nice feeling to walk outside first thing in the morning and be greeted by that refreshingly crisp, chill of fall air! Even if it is a tease and by afternoon, muggy, warm weather is back. I get especially excited with the onrush of fall weather, and it’s not because of football season! It’s because I know there are a plethora of fun-filled, horse events to choose from in the Memphis area. Whether you wish to go on a trail ride and enjoy the beautiful colors of changing fall leaves, or experience something a bit faster-paced, such as a polo match, there are many opportunities right here in your own back yard….give or take a few miles.

Many opportunities to enjoy horses don’t mean you have to own a horse either! Many events are free to “spectators” simply wishing to go out and enjoy watching majestic horses. In fact, being a spectator at horse events is a fantastic way to get outdoors for some fresh air, learn more about horses, and possibly make some new “horsey” friends.

Looking for a fun “horsey” Halloween event to take the kids too? Consider attending the Nashoba Carriage Association’s Halloween Hustle Pleasure Drive & the Kimberlin Farms Hunter Pace. This event is free for carriage drivers and spectators, and $35 per hunter/pace entry. Oct. 25th.

Interested in attending a polo match? Did you know Memphis has a rich polo history beginning in 1954? Take a short day trip out to Rossville and see what you think. Click here for the fall schedule and details. (Oct. 10, 17, 18)

Perhaps you’re more the “cowboy” type? Never, fear, plenty of options for you too. There are many western events occurring this month at the Agricenter’s Showplace Arena. Whether you wish to see a rodeo, quarter horse show, breeder’s futurity, or team roping, October and November is a busy time for these activities at the Showplace arena!  (Oct. 17,22-25; Nov. 14-15)

Maybe you’d like to attend a hunter/jumper show and watch beautiful horses and ponies jump a variety of beautifully decorated jumps? There are numerous opportunities to attend these shows throughout October and November at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds facility right smack, down, in the middle of Germantown. Whether a “fun show” or a more competitive “rated” show for the seriously, fierce competitors, why not check out one of these events? (Oct. 16-17; Nov. 4-8, 20-21)
