The best way to start this weekend in Kansas City is to be at Wags for Riches, a fundraiser benefiting The Animal Rescue Alliance (T.A.R.A.). On Friday, February 28th, Haute Flash Burlesque is teaming with T.A.R.A. in the hopes that the pair can raise some much-needed funds for KC's homeless pets. The fundraiser is sure to be a hit by providing entertainment from some of the area's most talented performers. There will be burlesque, comedy, belly dancers, singers and more! The evening will be hosted by the one and only Dirty Dorothy, a KC favorite. Some of the performers include:

T.A.R.A. is a non-profit, all-volunteer group that was founded in 2007 in honor of Tara Nagel. Nagel worked at a local vet's office and she also ran its adoption program on the side. She always dreamed of starting a rescue for black dogs, which are sadly, some of the last to be adopted from shelters. Unfortunately, only two months after her 25th birthday, Nagel lost her life in a car accident. It only took friends two years to found T.A.R.A. in honor of their lost pal. Although T.A.R.A. has no paid staff, the group has been responsible for saving the lives of 1,500 homeless pets since '07.

"It's heart wrenching to imagine, but every day in our area, emaciated puppies and kittens are dumped and left to scavenge for food and water in city parks, and perfectly wonderful pets sit on death row at high-kill shelters, just begging for someone to give them a chance," says T.A.R.A. president Virginia Keithley. "T.A.R.A. saves these animals' lives. We open our houses as temporary foster homes, we get them healthy, spay or neuter and microchip them all, and then find them loving forever homes."
