Fun and learning about trucks for students at South Olive Elementary

How do we define a truck? The defines trucks as any of various heavy motor vehicles designed for carrying or pulling loads, but the best way to define vehicles of these varying types to elementary school children is to ‘SHOW THEM THE TRUCKS’!

As reported in a press release by the Palm Beach County School District, South Olive Elementary School recently hosted Truck Day, an elementary school-kid friendly career day. The event was organized by the school’s PTO and featured 13 vehicles ranging from a tractor to a West Palm Beach Police Department SWAT vehicle.

Teachers brought their students outside to look at the vehicles and ask questions of the operators and owners. Most classes spent 30 – 45 minutes walking around the bus loop taking it all in. The students were highly engaged. The vehicle operators provided information about the nature of their vehicles and the type of training and education needed to perform their duties.

Trucks are a vital part of all of our lives. Trucks, from the commercial standpoint, are used to transport the products/supplies we need from coast to coast; in the farming industry, trucks become a personal part of individual families that make their living by farming; in all industries and in all backgrounds and cultures, TRUCKS ARE IMPORTANT!
