It's winter, it's cold, and the outdoor activities and gorgeous view in Colorado can be a little too cold, especially for the little ones. So where can they run off their energy? Here are a few local free places to enjoy a few hours away from home:

1. The Council Tree Library

2733 Council Tree Avenue Fort Collins, CO

http://www.poudrelibraries.org/counciltree/

The activities and possibilities are endless at this new library. There are puppets, storyboards, rhyming, phonics, and discovery activities on stations in the children's section in addition to all of the amazing books and movies. This new location is geared toward families. With computers and other library-sponsored activities, it's worth spending at least a few hours each week in this beautiful library.

2. The Foothills Fashion Mall Children's Play Area

215 E. Foothills Parkway East entrance Fort Collins, CO

Although small, this enclosed play area is for children birth-five years of age and is great for a little exercise. With large foam sports equipment, it's great for jumping, climbing, or running around. Kids play well with each other and if you have to make a stop in the mall, it's a great location to use to make the trip special for the children too!

3. The Lyric Cinema Cafe

300 E Mountain Fort Collins, CO

http://www.lyriccinemacafe.com

On select Poudre Valley School District No-School days, the Lyric hosts free children's matinees at 2 pm.
