Fullerton library to hold runaway seminar for parents

Fullerton Public Library will host a free seminar next month to help educate parents about steps to take and resources for when your child runs away or threatens to.

"Kids Run for Reasons" seminar will take place September 19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the community room in the conference center at Fullerton Public Library. A $5 donation is optional. Speakers will discuss topics including when to file a police report, family reunification and why kids runaway. Community resource literature will also be available.

A licensed social worker, a retired juvenile probation officer and a detective from Fullerton Police Department will be among the speakers. Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk Silva will give the opening remarks.

"People in Fullerton appear to be more proactive," Linda Fredrickson, M.A. said when she was choosing locations for the seminar. She also spoke highly of the department as a proactive one.

The seminar is sponsored by Fullerton Police Department, CASA Youth Shelter in Los Alamitos, Huntington Beach Youth Shelter, Orange County Department of Education, Orange County 211 and Fullerton Parks and Recreation.
