'Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew': Kendra shuts down, episode five (video preview):
It's episode five of "Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew," and the women patients are in an art therapy group learning how to release their feelings through self expression: art and words. Dr. Drew introduces them to Jae Farkas, a prevention education specialist, who will help guide them through the process.
Explaining that the process of working through trauma with art can be a very empowering experience, Jae and Dr. Drew also tell them that this exercise will bring up their vulnerable feelings from past rapes and abuse. In this artistic exercise, he hopes that they will begin the difficult process of coming to terms with these extremely painful and traumatic experiences.
Many of these secrets have been buried for years and trigger feelings of extreme emotional pain, fear, shame, and rage. This makes them feel vulnerable and slow to release. Many begin to shut down at this point in their process, as the pain, fear, and shame feels intolerable.
Jae: "Are you stuck?"
Kendra: "I just shut down."
She says that she feels like "poison" and wants to be anywhere, but here.
