Rey Mysterio has caused a lot of anger and problems within WWE over the past 24 hours, and that's coming off of the huge "SummerSlam" show on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014. Even though he hasn't appeared on WWE television in a while, Mysterio appeared in a promo for AAA "TripleMania" on the same evening, and it included a hashtag saying #FreeRey in hopes of getting him out of his contract, per WrestleZone.
Rey Mysterio's contract with WWE was to be up some time ago, but his massive amount of time off for injuries, his contract was extended. Now, Mysterio and others obviously don't feel that's the right thing to do and they want him free to do as he pleases.
On Sunday evening, AAA held "TripleMania XXII" in Mexico City, and it included an appearance by recently released Alberto Del Rio, now known as Alberto el Patron. While Del Rio appeared in person, Mysterio appeared just via a taped promo.
Del Rio actually showed up, even though he likely had a no-compete clause in his contract, but that isn't what has WWE upset. WWE is angry because Del Rio essentially called the company a bunch of racists, and now that has them looking bad to the Latino community.
F4WOnline reports this is bad for WWE because they have been working for years to build up Latino superstars and bring in more fans.
On the other hand, Mysterio appeared in the short promo video and congratulated AAA on 22 years of success and telling fans he would "see them soon." Attached to the promo was the hashtag #FreeRey which is obviously a sign they want him in AAA.
It is very possible that a lawsuit of some kind could come AAA's way since Mysterio is technically and legally under contract with WWE.
