Full video of Glenn Beck's CPAC speech

Glenn Beck was demonstrative as always during the CPAC speech.  AP Photo Jose Luis Magana

Last night Glenn Beck delivered the keynote speech at CPAC to an enthusiastic and supportive crowd.  The speech featured the common traits of every Beck presentation including a chalkboard, a little self-abasement, and a lot of sweat.

On a more substantive level Beck attacked what he called the progressive agenda at one point going as far as to call it a "cancer" which is eating away at the Constitution.  Beck spent a lot of time explaining his version of history going all the way back to Teddy Roosevelt in his criticism of progressive policies.  After a slight detour to the Tiger Woods story Beck then went on to try and define conservatism.  Beck emphasized the values of personal responsibility and freedom in explaining his version of conservatism.  A fuller summary of the speech can be read here

UPDATE:  My commentary and fact check of Beck's speech can now be read here.

Ryan, don't bother fact checking the speech.
Unlike you facist Liberals,us conservatives only deal in facts, not the hype your used to hearing from your leaders.!!!

As opposed to you Moi, who are a obviously Mensa scholar based on your ad hominem retort. When you cannot defeat the message, attack the messenger...

Mol your the moron . Just for the record Beck's history of Progressivism is 100 % correct . He also blamed Repub for Progressivism ... brainless one !
As opposes to 90 % of your empty suit boy/ man Obama says is Lies !

  • A Lady for Liberty 2 years ago

Mr. Beck's speech was very moving and correct. If people are bashing him (the messenger) then his message is at least getting out to those who don't believe in our freedoms. At least they are listening. Maybe some of it will sink in and their "light" will come on. I just hope it won't be after America has hit rock bottom.

  • Hee 2 years ago

I have to say. I am an Obama supporter but there was nothing in Glenn Beck's Speech that I didn't agree with!. He has earned my respect. I wish he would keep his temper under control most of the time, that's when he says idiotic things like Rush Limbaugh. Nevertheless, great speech.

  • Stan Transue (Habersham Co Conservative Examiner) 2 years ago

Ryan. Thank you for posting this video. I watched the whole thing! As I watched, being informed, educated, inspired and encouraged by Mr. Beck's speech, I realized that I had completely forgotten your cynical, sneering condescension directed at him and anyone who loves the fundamental values that are the bedrock of American greatness and the simple message of this honest lover of liberty. Thank you.

  • A Lady for Liberty 2 years ago

Thanks for your comment Hee...I just want to say one thing about Mr. Beck's temper, sometimes you have to yell out loud to be heard. Sometimes you have to make a scene to call attention to your message. I don't like the yelling either, but I believe it comes from his passion, his love for our country. I wish more people were like you. I know I am going to share this speech with all that I can. I know I will be called a "Tea Bagger" and all the bad things the media is trying to tell people about it, but that is okay because I am not alone. I am conservatively moderate, daugher of a veteran, veteran myself and spouse of a retire veteran. I am proud of my county and the people who fight for us and with us either on the battlefields or in support of those on the front lines. We can win this home battle together, just keep getting the message out there!

  • Rob 2 years ago

Beck is SO right when he says that a small percentenge of liberal loons is destroying this nation. I mean, how can a few nuts say that Indian names can't be used anymore for sports teams, and the rest of us just roll over and say okay? We are the majority but because we are not nuts and are nice we think, "Well, alright, change the names." I am tired of it. Today I say that PETA wants to stop a tradition where a high school uses real donkeys at a half time show... SHUT UP PETA. I am mad as hell and not gonna put up with you liberal loons anymore!

Moi is typical of the left. Has anyone read any concise, articulate criticisms of Beck or Palin? On policy and not personality?
It is ALWAYS comments like that of Moi. PURE opinion lacking any substance. They just cannot argue policy. The funny thing is that they do not even realize that when they type such asinine comments, they have given up the argument. They have lost since they have no real reasons other than emotion. Very sad.

  • Rob 2 years ago

By the way, I have already watched the whole speech three times and am probaly going to do so again once or twice today. It is SO refreshing to hear someone representing MY thoughts. Keep up the good work Glenn Beck!

  • Hee 2 years ago

Lady Liberty Thank you for your comments.
"...I just want to say one thing about Mr. Beck's temper, sometimes you have to yell out loud to be heard".
I think there more constructive ways of being heard. I appreciate the fact he is passionate but I think the temper thing takes away a lot of his credibility, which it's a shame because I believe he is honest. You do your thing and don't even think about what other people think or say. that's their problem not yours.
Really looking forward to the health care summit!!!

  • Dave 2 years ago

I thought it was a great speech. I actually look forward to Ryan fact checking this. Maybe he will spend a little time on this "Beck spent a lot of time explaining his version of history going all the way back to Teddy Roosevelt in his criticism of progressive policies." This sentence has a lot of loaded language in and of itself. But I'll reserve judgment until after his next article.

But you really can't argue with the message given in the speech.

  • Ryan Witt 2 years ago

Stan: I am critical of Beck I have never really hidden that fact. Though this post is certainly much more report than commentary. If you thought this was bias you should really read some of my more critical work.

Anyway, as Beck would say why don't you try attacking my arguments rather than just name calling or assuming that I must hate every freedom loving patriot or whatever. No reason to take it personal man. I have nothing personally against Beck. I just think he is wrong. How come when he attacks liberals he is being patriotic but when I attack him it is "sneering" and "condescension." Think about that for a second....seriously.

  • Jibberjabby 2 years ago

Beck gives a quick little nazi salute when he first comes on stage. Did you see it? Glenn Beck is now the official spokesman for the Republican party. Wow! And I thought Sarah Palin would be the one to completely destroyed them.

  • Jess 2 years ago

That was a great speech, and I loved the true poem from the Statue of Liberty. He is a man who truly loves his country, and if more of us could love our country half as much, we would be in a much better place.

  • ChuckL 2 years ago

Yes! By all means, let's all follow Beck's siren call and do everything in our power to put a stop to progress!

God forbid we allow evolution to move forward.

Has this nation really gotten this dumb, or is it just the same set of dummies, making more noise? Either way, we're in deep trouble, and Beck's acceptance as a legitimate spokesperson for anything beyond pre-school levels of intelligence is ample proof of that.

  • Dave F 2 years ago

I'm looking forward to Ryan's fact checking too. Beck is a ray of hope.

Ryan. Nowhere in my comment did I call you any names. I merely commented on the tone and inferences of your comments and identified them for what they are: sneering and condescending.

I have read many of your other pieces and found that you use your platform to generally undermine the irrefutable principles of liberty and equal justice – not through a process of logical deduction but by innuendo and subterfuge. What motive you have for eroding the philosophical standards that preserve your rights and mine I cannot say, but it seems to be at least self-defeating and at worst seditious.

Furthermore – if you think you can employ denigration in the guise of reporting without having it identified for what it is, you commit the typical error of Progressive elitists by underestimating the perceptiveness of your audience.

If identifying this audacity for what it is can be misidentified as name calling then, yes that is what I am doing. I am defining the character traits impli

  • Andi 2 years ago

What an unbelievably bias article on this speech. When you do your fact check, you must include the fact that Obama outright lied 16x in the state of the union. You are really pathetic. Wake up!

For ChuckL, Evolution? You leftists are a on your way back to where you belong. I'll keep my God, freedom, and guns. You keep your "evolution, progress and change"(socialist speak for diminishing our freedom) . As for the change part, see you in November.

    Moi...rhymes with boy?

Seriously, Moi makes the mistake that so many deep thinkers make. They assume that their position is so obvious that it doesn't require support. Moi's comment is symptomatic of the intellectual laziness of those on the left. They are incapable of having consecutive thoughts, they never ask, "And then what?" And they usually stop the thought process when it feels good. No need to go farther, besides anyone who goes farther must be a freaking moron.

The founding fathers are spinning in their graves. Conservatives do love a radio huckster! If Glenn can sell gold on his radio program for 35% more than it's worth then you know its not going to be too difficult for him fire up this crowd at CPAC.

  • Ryan Witt 2 years ago

Stan: Please provide a quote from ANY of my pieces in which "undermine the irrefutable principles of liberty and equal justice." That is simply a lie. As you speak about my supposed "denigration" you do exactly the same in your comments.

  • steve50fla 2 years ago

Beck has done more to educate America and sound the alarm against the progressives thank you Glen Beck. Their is an awaking in America and I'm betting progressives will crawl back under the rocks they often hide under.

  • Dave 2 years ago

    @Sick Twisted Freak

Actually he advertises for a company that sells gold he doesn't do it himself.

As far as "The founding fathers are spinning in their graves. "

You're probably right, considering we have a President in office that has said the Constitution is flawed.

"... the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy." - Mr. Obama

I apologize for the fact check taking so long. In my defense there are a lot of dubious claims in the speech to check. Some of them are true. Some are not which is no surprise.

Sarah Palin has created more jobs in America the past year than Obama and the Democrat controlled government has!

  • Sick Twisted Freak 2 years ago

Dave, come on! Each of Glenn's emotional segments on the radio builds up to the commercial. You guys need to step back and really listen to him sometime. It's really amazing to hear him build layer upon layer of fear and then segue to the pitch for either way over priced gold or over priced "survival" seeds or for companies that can get you out of paying your credit card debt or companies that can help you walk away from your mortgage. A whole industry has been built on Glenn's ability to scare you.

    So.

His message has been consistent for years before he started running their spots (btw he started warning about the housing market years before anyone else, how'd that work out).

Advertiser figures this would be a good market to advertise to, then they hire him for the spots. That's called free market enterprising.

You might not like that company but it doesn't mean that his message is necessarily wrong.

Ryan..when you start reporting on how this current administration has repeatedly lied to us and covered the lies with more lies you will gain some creditability. Until then, keep writing your politically slanted, sycophantic articles for a White House who would discard you in a minute if it meant bettering their own agenda. I thank God every day that that we have an idiot as President, a man who can't even memorize a speech for 7 year olds. Mr. TelePrompter,.. thank you for converting me to Conservatism!!!

    Hi, Ryan Witt -

What we comment here on this website is not going to make a difference to America. However, if we all unite around a common vision for America - a vision that we all share - then we can make America a better place.

Let's start now. My vision of America is a country that is debt free and financially independent. My vision of America is that its citizens are no longer dependent on other nations to provide them with the fuel they need to put in their cars. My vision of America is that economic policies are implemented that make it attractive for businesses to build their plants on America soil, so that Americans can earn the money they want.

Each of these visions is centered around freedom. Are you really free when your country is broke and in debt? Are you really free when you depend on foreign fuel? Are you really free when you're unemployed with now money?

Ryan, share with us what your vision of America is. Let's dialogue now!

Progressives are the new lunatic fringe. We know you've got to blame someone for your own confusion. But we're on guard to you this time against your final solution.
No you're not going to win this time we won't let you kill the laughter.
We know you're out there but in these new dark ages there will still be light. An eye for an eye; Well before you go under...

Dave, unfortunately his message is based on a sloppy rewriting of history. Any one of us could go back and cherry pick through history, ignore timelines and key events and come up with our own version of how we came this point in time. Ask Glenn what he thinks of Herbert Hoover.

  • Dave 2 years ago

    @Sick Twisted Freak

Sorry, I see that I must not have cleared the comment section before when I was refreshing the page. Didn't mean to come off as rude with multiple posts.

I have a pretty good idea of how he feels about Hoover. Not sure if I agree 100% with his opinion. Not sure what you are getting at with cherry picking in history. A little more detail would help though.

Dave, that "Obama thesis" was exposed as a fraud long ago. Joe Klein, who the lying originator of the hoax claimed was the original "source," said there was no such paper.

Your simple-minded acceptance without even checking says more about you than about Obama.

  • Dave 2 years ago

source? I'm not disagreeing, but if I'm wrong just point me somewhere instead of saying it is a hoax.

  • Ryan Witt 2 years ago

Doug: I think we can agree on those goals but if you think we can accomplish them by passing a bill which says we respect "freedom" I do not think we are going to get anywhere. The solutions required to meet those goals are complex and I am even willing to go as far as to say they will not always allow for more freedom. We accept less freedom just to live in society. I give up the freedom to kill anyone I want for whatever reason as part of living in society. If really want to get free of debt and foreign oil dependence it will require a lot more than just letting people do what they want. Middle Eastern oil is by far the cheapest. If we allowed the free market to decide it would purchase from the cheapest source leading to MORE dependence. That is just one example.

  • Independant 2 years ago

We have reached critical mass in this country. The only way to control is to cut government spending, etc. I just hope the politicians that want to change the course can stomach the cries from the those who have total dependance on gov't. handouts - it's going to be a "bumpy" ride.

  • Observer 2 years ago

Beck gave a great speech and he told the truth. The private citizens can provide a savefy net for the less fortunate. They do a great job. We need these politicians to get out of the way. People without an agenda or leftist ideology know what to do to fix it. The idiots that don't want to fix it need to go.
