Where Iron Man and Marvel's The Avengers begins the summer with a smash, The Expendables will end it with a bang.
The third -- and last? -- installment of Sylvester Stallone's tribute franchise to 1980s and 1990s action movies finds mercenary Barney Ross and his crew breaking out Wesley Snipes, enlisting Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, and the next generation of Expendables in taking on Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), an arms trader who co-founded the Expendables with Ross.
Here's some Sly movie trivia for you: Stallone and Snipes were arch-rivals John Spartan and Simon Phoenix in the 1993 sci-fi action hit Demolition Man, which co-starred a young Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt. Two years later, Stallone faced off with Banderas as Assassins from the Wachowski brothers, who rose to greater fame with The Matrix trilogy with Keanu Reeves as Neo ('the One'), Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, and Carrie Anne-Moss as Trinity.
The Expendables 3, which also co-stars returning favorites Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, locks and load August 15; check out the complete trailer on its official website.
