The accident that killed Army Staff Sgt. Leroy Jackson, 46, on Oct. 18, at Fort Hood is still under investigation by the military.
Notification of his death wasn't released until yesterday and there were few other details other than he died in an off-road incident in a military vehicle military personnel often refer to as a HumVee.
Staff Sgt. Jackson entered the military in May 1998 as an infantryman and has been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since November 2005.
The Army indicates that Staff Sgt. Jackson has been on five combat deployments including the original campaign into Iraq; Operation New Dawn. He also saw combat in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Jackson was highly decorated including three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals and the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
