MTV's Video Music Awards will be held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 9pm. I expect that the Barclays will be humming by 7pm for the red carpet scene.
At the same time the AfroPunk festival will be wrapping up in Ft. Greene at Commodore Barry Park. The after parties will begin around 11-midnight.
That means somewhere around 11pm tonight Ft. Greene, Williamsburg, and some of Prospect Heights and Park Slope will get a massive crowd from two events, attendees and possibly stars. Think about it a lot of people who like some of the acts at AfroPunk will also like some of the acts at the VMA's. Lots of people who are attending the festival live in nearby Ft. Greene and may not be ready to give up having a good time.
As the VMA's wrap up I expect that Williamsburg will be a big destination for a lot of acts at the VMA's. Williamsburg is already a magnet for fun so I expect this to be no different, actually a little more fun and diverse than usual. Tonight Goodie Mob in which Cee-Lo is a member is also playing the Brooklyn Bowl, so there is already a big attraction along with the hundreds of other shows.
This means this is a great night to just be out popping in from bar to bar or club to club in Brooklyn. Anything around Lafayette and Fulton st all the way to Dekalb Avenue will have a big crowd after AfroPunk. Flatbush Avenue within a 5 block radius will have dinner spill over and some hopping bars before and after the VMA's.
For a list of good places to visit for Afro Punk visit Afro Punk's website http://afropunkfest.com/after-dark/.
