Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis, 24, of Staten Island, N.Y., was killed in a massive firefight August 28, 2013.
He died in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, small arms and indirect fire.
He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, N.Y.
Killed in the same battle was Sgt. 1st Class Ricardo D. Young, 34, of Rosston, Ark.,
Ollis deployed with his unit in January. As published by Freedom Remembered, Ollis is survived by his mother and father.
No word from this Soldier's family on funeral arrangements.
