While a romantic dinner out is a great Valentine's Day gift, the cost of dining out is prohibitive for many. Not to mention, that box of gourmet chocolates can set you back a cool $20 or more.
Here are some frugal Valentine's Day recipes to tempt your tastebuds and save your money.
- Get out your heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out heart shaped sandwiches, make heart shaped toast or heart shaped pancakes.
- Make a heart healthy fruit salad using strawberries, red grapes, red delicious apples and bananas. Strawberries are on sale for just $1.50 per pound at Meijer this week. Make a strawberry or raspberry yogurt to dip it into.
- Fondue is a Valentine's Day favorite. Make your own at home if you have a melting pot, or just melt some chocolate in the microwave and dip pretzels, marshmallows, fruit or shortbread cookies into it.
- Make your own surf 'n' turf at home with seafood and steak purchased at the store. Make it special with candles, use the nicer dishes, play some soft music and dim the lights.
