Valentine's Day is just a day away. While the news reports that men spend on average more than $160 for Valentine's Day, and women spend an average of $85 each, you do not have to spend that much money to have a memorable day.
Here are some frugal gift ideas. Tomorrow, come back for recipe ideas for celebrating this special day.
- Super Hero Suckers: make a super hero cape and face mask from construction paper, cardstock or fabric scraps and turn a Tootsie Pop or Blow Pop into a Super Hero for your little Valentines.
- Bookmark: use a heart shaped cookie cutter as a template. Use cardstock or fabric to make a heart shape. If using fabric, make two hearts. Handstitch the hearts together, using fusible interfacing to stiffen the fabric and make it sturdier. Add a few ribbons as the bookmark's tail. Pair this with an inexpensive book purchased from a local thrift store such as Goodwill Columbus.
- Appliqued shirt: Have more fabric scraps? Cut out some heart shapes and apply fusible interfacing to the back. Stitch onto plain short or longsleeved tee shirts.
