Frugal Fridays-Christmas craft ideas-The Tee-shirt challenge

There is no denying that the economy is still down, people are spending more time together and less money, and communities are working together to keep Christmas in the communities instead of the big box stores.  How do you keep Christmas on a budget when your kids want to give gifts too?  Here's an idea that will help teach your kiddos about reduce-reuse-recycle through upcycling old tee shirts, create a lot of extra gifts for all the people on your list, and most importantly, create family time.  A family that creates together, stays together.

The tee-shirt challenge:

Take an old tee shirt.  It can be stained, it can be ratty, and it can't be new.  Brainstorm all the things you can make out of an old tee shirt and start creating.  You'd be surprised what you come up with that looks pretty close to items people spend good money on at the store.

What your kids will learn:

  • You don't have to buy things to give things
  • Hand made things mean more to the giver and the receiver than more bath soap and body spray.
  • Creation=exercising the brain
  • Christmas is not spelled with $$
  • Upcycling reuses things that would otherwise be thrown away
  • Environmental stewardship

Now get creating!

Trust me, you're gonna love it!
